A tale of whales part 2: The Great Escape
The second chapter of this tale was launched in Sayulita, Nayarit, under the title of : The Great Escape. At La Gale, in Oz boutique Hotel.
I introduced a new character in this story, a xoloizcuintle whale, a beautiful black glaze whale. I am so thankful with Alina and Claudia Zayas for believing in me, and let me show and sell my work at their beautiful galleries.
this is the second chapter:
Chapter two:
The Great Escape
In one of our annual visits to Baja California to see the whales, I was impressed by the spectacle that a humpback mother and her daughter put on display for us. That night I dreamt about the whales.
The political situation in Mexico was a little tense. Donald Trump was running for president of the United States so there was a lot of fear in the air. Despite that, I thought it to be a romantic idea that whales would travel from Alaska to Mexico to fall in love or maybe just to run from Trump. It seems that even they knew that, on our side of the wall (which this "gentleman" wants us to pay for) was way more fun.
That night, agitated, excited and even a little dizzy after sighting, I dreamt of the experience and what these ladies had done. In my dream, upon entering Mexican waters, the whales heard a somewhat unusual song. It was different from that of their companions of the North. A very bohemian song with a broken and high pitched voice. They couldn’t quite make out what it was in the dark waters. It seemed to be bad. They could only determine the shape of an animal near the same size and black.
The albino whale, Albina, was the most fearful of the herd. Perhaps due to so many previous attacks with killer whales. As she is unique to her species, she hid herself among the golden herd and Alicia, a hunchback that had stayed in Los Angeles for a while because her best friend had been adopted by the Californian dream.
To their surprise, when trying to dodge the dark animal, it was nothing more than a Mexican whale trying to tell them that they had arrived home! It was a male xoloescuincle whale; also unique in its kind. Albina identified with him and immediately began a friendship that, in that summer, became a tender romance under the heat of Magdalena Bay.
Both were too young to create a serious romance. Mama Dorada was always on the lookout but they spent a luxurious summer together. Some humans, in their boats, took photos and the pair eventually came out to greet them. It seemed that Mexico was a safe place to live among these little human men.
Humans would sometimes enter their habitat, in very strange clothes, to take photos. Here, the whales are Hollywood stars. This is how they spend the best moments of the year in these warm waters. But, as they say, nothing lasts forever. The time to return to the North was almost imminent and Xolo knew he was staying in Mexico.
Could it be that this herd decides to stay here? Who knows? I think I need to investigate my dreams more to know what happens next ... I need to sleep. Yes, I think I’ll dream a little more.
